A downloadable game for Windows

This is a tribute game to Star Craft, mainly made from assets in the SC2 editor, which are owned by Blizzard (project is not endorsed by Blizzard, but I hope they let this fan game slide). Expect a third person shooter capable of 2-4 player split screen coop gameplay, with 6 playable units and two NPC mercenaries to hire for single players... also expect a steep learning curve, as all playable units require different playstyle, and have 3-4 upgrades. And please remember, this is a fan project so please be lenient with the rough details. The aim of the game is to best all 6 maps, finding all randomly placed artifacts, mining minerals and destroying zerg nests and towers, while earning enough credits to fund the next mission (as units and upgrades cost credit). If you are out of funds, then the game restarts (with replenished funds).

Special thanks to

  • Blizzard - for creating the SC universe & making assets available through SC2 editor.
  • Mordokaj & Rolderek - for testing (and nagging me to drop difficulty), helping out with assets & supporting me during this journey.
  • JohnMesplay - for his SCV model, the missing piece of the puzzle.
  • Pixabay community - for providing free assets to fill what's missing (check them out).

...anybody who would like to record gameplay video and share it on Youtube, feel free to do so.

Tips & Tricks

  • Resolution and move & look sensitivity may be changed in the main menu settings
  • The practice map is the first option, right in the middle of the starmap... there you can try out all units and upgrades for free. Each unit plays a bit different, so try out which fits you.
  • Don't forget to select equipment in the spawn menu (they turn blue if selected), they can help a lot to survive (if you have the funds for it)!
  • You can step back from equipment selection to character selection by pressing controller: B / keyboard 3.
  • The first player may abandon the map by pressing controller: Y / keyboard: 2 in the character selection menu.

In Game

  • If you are stuck at an obstacle try dash (run - controller: LB / keyboard: space), as you can pass higher obstacles while running.
  • Zoom is trigger (push to zoom, push again to revert to third person camera), not hold to use!
  • You may retreat to the character selection menu at the spawn station by pressing controller: A / keyboard: Q, unit cost will be refunded.
  • You may retreat wherever on the map by pressing controller: back / keyboard: Esc, but it takes a while.
  • The Zerg can hear you if you make noise (crouching < walking < running < shooting), and check out what is going on. If they see you they will attack until they loose your sight (bummer, as most of them is faster than you).
  • Melee (controller: RB / keyboard: E) attacks don't damage teammates, and are way less loud than guns.
  • If you stand still for a sec, you will auto crouch (and thus be less visible).
  • Missing equipment will be awarded for killing increasing amount of zerg, great way to save credit if you are confident enough.
  • Don't forget to purge the two zerg nests, collect the minerals (by hitting them), and destroy the zerg towers (on higher levels) as they yield credit.
  • If the zerg hive gets agitated, they will spawn more often. If you lay low (or perish) the hive calms down eventually, but they will never run out!
  • Heavy units (Goliath & Tank) can not collect credits and objective... so they'll need NPCs or coop players to work with.
  • If the situation gets tough, Player1 may spawn the Marine & Medic NPC to help out... please read in the spawn menu how to command them. I'd advise to make them follow you, but you are free to make them engage if distraction is needed.

Units

  • Marine - The easiest unit of all: if you use your shield and stim right, you are practically indestructible... however you can not run or zoom while shielded. Shield even protects you from Overlord psy attacks to an extent. Grenades are also reloadable.
  • Ghost - Stealth makes you transparent, not invisible... keep your distance. Using sword won't compromise stealth, and sword heavy attack (left trigger) gets even hydralisks in one go... but if you take damage stealth collapses. Yamato takes a while to wind up. With melee attack you can put enemies in front of you to sleep for a while... the dumber the longer.
  • Firebat - Ray weapon upgrade can penetrate solid obstacles, even terrain... if fuel is low switch back to the good ol' firethrower. You can command the Mine with controller: B / keyboard: 3, hold down for self destruct. Mine will also blow up if fatally injured, don't be near.
  • SCV - You have two fists to hit (LT & RT), may carry 3 objectives, and mine really fast (controller: A / keyboard: Q) Running over zergs hurts them a lot! The heal ability also heals you. More upgrades you take, more gadgets you may build... don't forget to recollect them with A. Turrets are great, but barricade heals & recharges coop players and emitter lures zerg in a narrow line & puts nearby enemies to sleep.
  • Goliath - Hand cannons may be activated separately. Melee stomp dazes enemy. Jumpjet aiming is tricky, hold and watch the yellow aimer... enemies you hit while landing will take huge damage. Rockets take some time to wind up, but targets multiple enemies.
  • Siege Tank - In siege mode watch the minimap... the aimer can be controlled by both controller sticks (one fine one coarse). Before engaging siege mode consider dropping the mines for safety. Reloading & Defensive matrix engages a refill zone for coop players right behind the tank. Avoid melee, pump the flamer (melee) or just rush trough enemy zerg.
  • Mercenary Marine & Medic: if they die, they drop a blue gear. When you pick it up, they will respawn (no cost, you are not being punished for BOT mistakes)... don't forget to order them to follow, to catch up to you.

Tricky enemy Units

  • Overlords: if you damage their spawned tentacle, they'll take damage. Always keep an eye on them as tentacles may mess up Yamato aiming. Also avoid their psy attack, which may blind you for a while.
  • Ultralisks: You can not damage them from the front, when they are covering their head and dash. Keep out of the way, retreat or get around them. Firebat radiatiation ray, ghost yamato call, tank siege shell counters them.
  • Drones: tricky little buggers heal nearby zerg units, don't forget to clear them out.
